In an independent survey conducted by LightSpeed research, current customers in Pennsylvania and beyond were asked about their overall satisfaction levels with both PA and national major insurance carriers.
The study looked at several factors, including price, coverage, accident claims service, company financial ratings, and customer service reviews. The independent survey, commissioned by InsuraMatch and conducted during the summer and early fall of 2014, examined multiple carriers, some of which offer online quoting through InsuraMatch, and others who currently do not.
These respondents were asked to rate their overall experience with each carrier. Those who scored among the best car insurance, by both Pennsylvanians and elsewhere, included:
- Progressive Insurance: Nearly half of all respondents (46 percent) gave Progressive five stars for overall rating on their experience and 37.5 percent gave the carrier four stars.
- Esurance: customers gave Esurance a 47 percent five-star rating followed by 38 percent who gave the carrier four stars.
- Metlife Auto & Home: More than 4 out of five customers (41.5 percent) gave Metlife a five-star rating and 37.5 percent gave the insurance carrier four stars.
Other top carriers included Travelers, Geico, and 21st Century.
Furthermore, the majority of Progressive, Esurance and Metlife customers surveyed ranks these carriers among the best insurance companies in price and quality of coverage.
Another factor to look at is overall financial strength of the companies. Both Progressive and Esurance received an "A+" (Superior) rating from A.M. Best, an independent firm that rates the financial strength and performance of insurance companies. Metlife also scored extremely well, with an "A" (Excellent) rating.
