Trip Cancellation
Trip Cancellation is included in the Worldwide Trip Protector (WTP) and Worldwide Trip Protector Edge (WTPE) travel protection plans. The trip cancellation benefit can reimburse up to 100% of your insured trip cost if you are forced to cancel for one of the covered reasons. Under the WTP plan, there are over 25 covered reasons for Trip Cancellation and over 15 covered reasons under the WTPE plan.
Covered reasons under both WTP & WPTE include:
- Sickness, Injury or Death of You or Your Family Member, Your Traveling Companion or their Family Member, or Your Business Partner or their Family Member.
- Normal Pregnancy or Childbirth
- Mental, Nervous, or psychological condition or disorders
- Traffic Accident on the way to the departure location
- Strike
- Inclement Weather
- Home or destination is uninhabitable
- Hijack/Quarantine
- Jury Duty/Subpoena/Court Order
- Military Duty for Natural Disaster
- Military leave Revocation/Re-assignment
- Host Unable to Provide Accommodation
- Terrorist Incident
- Theft of passports/visas
- Felonious Assault
- Employer Termination
Covered reasons under WTP also include:
- Sickness, Injury or Death of a Service Animal
- Attending Childbirth
- Financial Insolvency or Financial Default of an entity that directly provides Travel Arrangements
- Mandatory Evacuation due to a Natural Disaster
- Divorce or legal separation
- NOAA Hurricane warning at destination
- Travel alert warning for level 4 or higher
- Transfer of employment
- School Year Extension
- Required to Work
- Employer Merger/Acquisition
- Place of Employment Unsuitable for Business
- Child Adoption
- Issues obtaining visa/passport
- Destination wedding cancellation
- If trip arrival is delayed and 50% or more of the scheduled trip duration is lost due to reasons covered under Missed Benefit Connection

Trip Interruption
Depending on your plan the maximum benefit amounts vary. Interrupting your trip for a covered reason under WTP can reimburse up to 150% of your trip cost and up to 100% of your trip cost under the WTPE plan. Under the WTP plan, there are over 25 covered reasons for Trip Interruption and over 15 covered reasons under the WTPE plan.
Medical Expenses
Again, the exact coverage will depend on which plan you choose. The Medical Evacuation benefit covers expenses incurred to transport you to the nearest medical facility capable of providing sufficient medical treatment to treat an unforeseen sickness or injury that is severe, acute, or life-threatening if adequeate treatment is not available in the immediate area. In addition, the Accident and Sickness Medical Expense benefit covers expenses incurred due to emergency dental treatment (subject to a lower limit), prescriptions, and treatment costs in the event of an unexpected accident or illness during the trip. Under the WTP plan, the Accident & Sickness Medical Expense benefit can provide coverage up to $100,000 and up to $10,000 under the WTPE plan.
Baggage Protection
If your baggage or personal effects are lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed during your trip, you can be reimbursed up to $1000 under the WTP plan and up to $750 under the WTPE plan. Under the Baggage Delay benefit, if your bags are delayed by at least 3 hours during your trip you can be reimbursed up to the $500 maximum benefit under the WTP plan for the purchase of necessary personal items like clothing. Under the WTPE plan, you can be reimbursed up to $200 if your baggage is delayed by at least 12 hours for the same expenses.
Optional Coverages Under Both WTP & WTPE*:
- Rental Car Damage & Theft Coverage
- Air Flight Only Accidental Death and Dismemberment- if you suffer loss of life, limb, or sight due to an accident occurring during air travel
Optional Coverages Under WTP Only*:
- Travel Inconvenience Bed Rest- if you are required to stay on bed rest or are quarantined to your room for at least 48 hours as prescribed by a Physician.
- Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) – any reason not otherwise covered by your plan
- Interruption for Any Reason (IFAR) – any reason not otherwise covered by your plan
- Event Ticket Registration Fee Protection- for prepaid, nonrefundable event ticket registration fees you paid if you are unable to attend or complete the event due to a covered reason
- Travel Inconvenience – over 20 covered reasons
- Baggage and Personal Effects coverage for Electronic Equipment- replacement of laptop, cellphone, or other electronics owned or leased by you if they are lost, stolen, damaged, or destroyed during your trip
Optional Coverages under WTPE*:
- Cancellation for Work Reasons- reimburses trip costs if you need to cancel your trip due to specified unexpected job responsibilities or changes
- Additional Medical Evacuation and Repatriation- additional medical evacuation and repatriation coverage
- Additional Accident & Sickness Medical Expense – additional medical expense coverage
*Additional costs apply if any optional coverage is added. CFAR and IFAR are not available to residents of NY
